If anyone else has seen anything like this or has a recommendations, the help is greatly appreciated. The motor was swapped out by traxxas due to high temps running stock tires and gearing, so I do not suspect a bad motor. The recommended gearing for the Rustler with 3s lipo is 31/76. I have attached a link to the chart for the stampede. Me and my son have been racing a little at our local indoor carpet track on foams, although I run a 19t brushed and modest gearing for better control as recommended by one of the local techs.

My thinking was that I would gear my truck the same as the Stampede (7 cell NIMH) since the tires are bigger and heavier. My question is that my temps seem to be really high 160-170 on the motor and a couple of degrees cooler on the esc. The only other upgrades that I have are integy shocks, traxxas aluminum castor and steering blocks, and rpm front/rear arms. I have changed out my Rustler tires to the Stampede tires currently running 25/86 gearing with a Venom 3s lipo. If you choose 3S it should already be reduced to 10/54 or 9/54 unless you drive on road.įor me I still use 11/54 with 3S Lipos and 5" wheels (3" rims) off the road and have so far no heat issues.įor now I don't worry too much with the current outside temperatures. ( Create a multiplier by getting the ratio between the old and new wheel circumference and apply it to the pinion size )ġ1/54 is the standard for running 2s on any terrain. consider that your slash 4x4 has more drivetrain resistance than the 2wd slash/rusty and pede do. ran it all summer, never had anything overheat and that was with 40minute runtimes.
i ran my rusty vxl on 3s lipo with 18/86 gearing and larger proline masher tires. Anything over 30 teeth and the slot needs ground to allow the motor to swing away. It would require some measuring and calculations to translate the larger wheels into a comparable pinion/spur combination. it should be safe to run the stock gearing with a 2s or 7cell battery. According to my gear charts, the highest ratio would be about 84 teeth on the spur and 35 tooth on the pinion. Larger wheels is the same as changing to a pinion with more teeth. above I have a chart that shows basic gearing options you can use for higher top speed, or faster acceleration. Speaking with msuk and there suggestion going down teeth if I'm getting over heating, so from my 11/54 they are suggestion 9/54 that does not sound right tho to me?.
