From memory one or two had even had the whole clutch assembly replaced without resolution until they then did the master. Many have had the slave cylinder replaced for this issue because its the easiest fix for the dealer and its never worked to my knowledge ( if anyone has had it solve the issue speak up and add the the knowledge data base please) and the ones that have had success have had the master cylinder replaced. This cap seal is a theory and just a fist step to check as a "maybe". If this is a problem that's anything but a very infrequent event then the likelihood is you have an issue with the master cylinder.

So your first step should be to get the fluid level correct to the point of the full arrow so you have some air space in the reservoir and then have a clean seal correctly fitted and the cap installed and NOT over tightened. I have images from my original post from maybe 18 months ago but they dont show you anything you dont already know. Very briefly in systems with low capacity reservoirs they provide the slit to act a a simple valve to compensate for expansion and contraction of the fluid as these small reservoirs dont have volume for a head of air and large area bladder/seal assembly. I was the member that did the research on this in the first place including going through the patent material for this slit bladder/seal because in many years of working on brake and clutch systems I hadn't seen it before. In your image of the seal showing the slit open it was obvious you were deforming the seal to open the slot so there's no deformation with the bladder. The plastic ring is a seal support. What isn't for sure or yet to be confirmed 100% is if only the orange is needed to be removed to accomplish taking out the delay in the pedals return or if the green or both are needed to be removed.Ĭlick to expand.Dont even think about driving without the reservoir cover on you'll get fluid everywhere and you dont want that on the paint. The second is more by the firewall (green). The first is by/connected to the transmission (orange) which has been called the "delay valve". I have yet to do this myself as there are two areas in the clutch line that can be removed. UPDATE: This link to another thread > Has anyone removed their clutch delay valve? << was provided by which also contributed with pics and PNs.

Is there something similar or do I just have a bum car and need to get it looked at? Maybe there is a mod here that I missed that addresses this issue.Īpologies if this has been posted elsewhere as I have just not found it (found others with the clutch sticking half way or to the floor which isn't quite the same). Without that pill in the way, the clutch would engage as fast as you wanted it to. The pedal wasn't slow to respond just the clutch engagement and you would burn your clutch if you were going through the gears fast and releasing that clutch quick.

If I am just driving normally, this delay isn't really felt as I'm not lifting the clutch foot off as fast.īack in the late 90's when I had my 90 and 95 Mits Eclipse (GST/GSX), one of the first mods was to pull the restrictor pill out of the slave cylinder as this would slow the hydraulic fluid coming back to help folks better engage the clutch when driving a stick (to make a smooth transition). Just sitting in the car, put your clutch to the floor and lift off quick.mine does not follow your foot and is slightly behind. Now, once I noticed this happen, I tried to see if this would repeat without going through the gears. There is a delay and 'thunk' sound from the clutch pedal as it comes back up.Īt one point I noticed that the clutch delayed just a little too long and I believe it then slipped the clutch some (smelled it, unless it was someone else.but pretty sure it was mine - not bad enough though as when I got home 10min later I opened the hood and couldn't smell it). Shifting foot goes to the floor, shift into next gear (doesn't matter the gear), let foot off fast and the clutch pedal doesn't follow as fast. Well I've searched the forums and either not proficient at the right words to search nor is my googleFu up to par because I haven't found anything that matches what I'm experiencing.įirst noticed this when really running through the gears fast.
